About the Canadian Association of New York Foundation

The Canadian Association of New York and its predecessor organizations have been in existence for more than 100 years and have long and proud histories as vital parts of the Canadian community in New York. We host many events throughout the year of a business, cultural, social, charitable and sporting nature that appeal to Canadians and friends of Canada in New York.

We are especially proud of our charitable work. Our Canadian Association of New York Foundation has donated more than $650,000 to children’s charities in the Tri-State area. We have an active charitable events committee which provides volunteers to clean-up local parks and schools and serve warm meals at the Bowery Mission and New York hospitals. We also founded and continue to organize the annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research (New York) in Central Park, Manhattan which has raised over $1,500,000 for cancer research since its inception in 1994.

ICE HOCKEY IN HARLEM

IHIH began in 1987 and introduced ice hockey to the economically challenged community of East Harlem. IHIH is a non-profit community-based organization for youth that uses the sport of hockey to promote academic achievement, responsibility, teamwork and good character. The objective of the organization is to provide inspiration, encouragement and guidance to children leading to better life experiences, education and career opportunities. Since its creation IHIH has enriched the lives of more than 1000 inner-city boys and girls.

TERRY FOX RUN FOR CANCER RESEARCH (NEW YORK)

Since its inception in 1994, the Terry Fox Run in New York has raised more than $1,500,000 for cancer research and continues to grow each year.

THE CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Jewish Board of Family & Children’s Services, Inc. Camp Scholarship Program exists to provide meaningful and therapeutically beneficial camp experiences for emotionally troubled, inner-city children. These children are in active mental health treatment at the JBFCS. The Camp Scholarships are viewed as an adjunct to the child’s overall therapeutic treatment plan. The camp experience enriches the lives of these disadvantaged, underprivileged youth as they learn new social and athletic skills, while enjoying a respite from a difficult home life. Time away at camp offers these children a chance to be carefree for a few short weeks in a safe and caring environment. Approximately 100 scholarships are granted to children of all religious and ethnic backgrounds.
