Daniel F. Sullivan was Consul General for Canada in New York, following a four year appointment by Prime Minister Harper in 2006. As Consul General, he contributed significantly to advancing the all important Canadian / US relationship.
Prior to his appointment as Consul General for Canada, he had a distinguished career in the financial services sector. He was Deputy Chairman of Scotia Capital Inc., the corporate and investment banking division of Scotiabank, where he enjoyed a successful 38 year career. Mr. Sullivan was Chairman and a Director of The Toronto Stock Exchange and led the TSE through its process of demutualization and privatization. He was also Chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
Mr. Sullivan is a Director of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Allied Properties REIT, IMP Group International Inc. and is an advisor to Shiplake Management Company. He is a former director of a number of public companies, including Allstream Inc., Cadillac Fairview Corporation, Camco Inc., Monarch Development Corporation and Schnedier Corporation. He has served on advisory boards or committees of Canada Post Corporation, Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Canadian Securities Administrators and the Ontario Securities Commission. He is the author of a number of papers published by the Canadian Tax Foundation on corporate and real estate financing.
Mr. Sullivan has made a significant contribution to the community over many years. He was Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Michael's Hospital and currently serves as a Director of the Hospital's Foundation. He was also Chair of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, the Provincial Government health authority for Toronto. Mr. Sullivan served as Chair and a Director of the Advancement Board of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, the Conference of Independent Schools and the Canadian Educational Standards Institute and currently is a Director of the Branksome Hall Foundation. He is a Director of a number of arts organizations, including the National Ballet Company of Canada and the Canadian Stage Company.
Mr. Sullivan is a recipient of the Service Medal (and is a Fellow) of the Foreign Policy Association of the United States, the Arbor Award from the University of Toronto and the Human Relations Award from the Canadian Centre for Diversity. He holds graduate degrees from Columbia University and the University of Toronto.
